Ask the hospital about your birth choices

Ask the hospital about your birth choices

A birth companion, pain relief, their C-section rate and the newborn unit.

Why It Matters (Clinical Guidance)

  • Government labour-room standards include a birth companion, privacy and your choice of birth position.
  • Over half of births in private hospitals in India, and about 3 in 4 in Odisha, are now by C-section (NFHS-6). Ask when they would advise one for you.
  • Ask whether an epidural is available at any hour, and what it costs.

Two Approved Approaches

Option A: Government hospital

Ask at your check-up who can stay with you during labour.

Option B: Private hospital

Ask for their C-section rate and the package cost in writing.
