Had a C-section before? Decide on VBAC by week 36

A vaginal birth after one caesarean works for about 3 in 4 women.

Why It Matters (Clinical Guidance)

  • After one lower-segment caesarean, 72–75% of planned vaginal births succeed, and more if you have had a vaginal birth before.
  • The scar opens in about 1 in 200 VBACs, so labour must be in a hospital with monitoring and an emergency theatre.
  • Not advised after a vertical scar, a previous rupture, or with placenta praevia. Skip this card if you have not had a C-section.
